Milton MP Adam van Koeverden announced $275,000 in funding for Species at Risk (SAR) outreach, and habitat enhancements in Conservation Halton’s watersheds. The funding will be facilitated through the Conservation Halton Foundation.
“I’m so proud that we could continue to prioritize the conservation of this country’s natural beauty,” van Koeverden said. The project being funded focuses on outreach and engaging with area landowners within Bronte Creek, Fourteen Mile Creek, and Sixteen Mile Creek. “This funding has positively impacted aquatic species at risk throughout the watershed, allowing us to improve their habitats, while also allowing us to continue our important work of improving water qaulity and flood water storage for our communities,” President and CEO of Conservation Halton Hassan Basit said.
It’s part of $4.8 million in funding announced by Fisheries, Oceans and Coast Guard Minister Bernadette Jordan provided under the Canada Nature Fund. “Protecting and recovering species at risk is a shared responsibility,” Jordan said. Many projects are underway including the improvement of water quality in the Ausable River, increasing aquatic stewardship in the Lower Thames Valley.
The federal government established $1.3 billion Nature Legacy Initiative in the 2018 federal budget.
