Halton Healthcare is pleased to announce a meaningful contribution from the Walker Wood family, a donation of 105 acres of land with an estimated value of $45 million. This extraordinary act of philanthropy is set to play a pivotal role in meeting the future healthcare needs of the region’s communities. In memory of Neil Cameron Walker Wood, who passed away in 2021, the Walker Wood family has generously gifted the farm that served as their home for over four decades to Halton Healthcare.
Neil Walker Wood’s wife, Susan, expressed her sentiment, saying, “My husband, Neil, and I have made the Walker Wood Farm in Georgetown our home for over 40 years. The farm was the centre of our family during that time, a beautiful space where we have created many wonderful memories. Neil and I have been incredibly fortunate in our lives, and Canada has provided many opportunities to help create our family’s success. We have always held a strong belief in giving back to our community, and it provides our family immense pleasure to
donate this land in memory of my late husband. We are delighted that Halton Healthcare will honour my husband’s legacy to advance healthcare for the people in this community for years to come.”
Melissa Farrell, President and CEO of Halton Healthcare, acknowledged the Walker Wood family’s gift, remarking, “This is a remarkably generous gift from the Walker Wood family. It creates exciting new
possibilities to meet the growing healthcare needs of our communities and for the future redevelopment of Georgetown Hospital. We will engage with all our partners to determine how best to use these lands to deliver the greatest public benefit.”
The acreage is situated at 9527 Trafalgar Road, near Halton Healthcare’s Georgetown Hospital and conveniently accessible via local and
provincial transportation routes, including Highway #7 and Highway #401.
Parm Gill, Minister of Red Tape Reduction and MPP for Milton, conveyed his gratitude, stating, “Thank you to the Walker Wood family for their
generous gift to Halton Healthcare, and I would like to extend my
congratulations to the entire community on this important milestone. This land donation will support the future redevelopment of Georgetown Hospital and healthcare services in Halton Region and is a significant step towards our shared goal of improving healthcare services and providing quality care for all Ontarians.”
Ted Arnott, MPP for Wellington-Halton Hills, lauded the Walker Wood family’s act of generosity, emphasizing its potential to enhance the community’s healthcare landscape, saying, “In this noteworthy act of generosity, the Walker Wood family is laying the foundation for a healthier, more vibrant future for our community. Congratulations to Halton Healthcare on receiving this land donation that paves the way for the future redevelopment of Georgetown Hospital. This is an excellent step towards providing modern, local healthcare services to our growing community.”
Ann Lawlor, Mayor of the Town of Halton Hills, echoed the sentiments of gratitude and pride, noting the significant impact this donation will have on the community’s healthcare future.
