The Willow Park Ecology Centre is inviting the community to welcome the return of the sun with its Winter Solstice fireside gathering.
Taking place between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 21, at the Willow Park Ecology Centre (Guelph Street, Norval), the celebration offers a blend of seasonal reflection, nature connection and communal warmth in the heart of Norval’s ravine system.
Facilitated by Genevieve Lim, the gathering will be held beneath the black willow tree near the butterfly garden, surrounded by the natural beauty of Silver Creek and the Credit River.
Organizers say the annual solstice marks a symbolic moment to acknowledge the “light within ourselves and others,” creating space for renewal as the year begins its gradual shift toward longer days.
The event includes a fire ceremony, a guided meditation to foster connection with Mother Earth and time to gather with a supportive community.
Guests are also welcome to stay afterward to mingle and enjoy the peaceful setting.
Participants are encouraged to bring a blanket, chair or mat, along with any offerings for Mother Earth that they feel called to share.
Attendees are also invited to arrive with intentions to set and old energies to release as part of the seasonal ritual.
Dressing warmly is recommended, as the full experience takes place outdoors.
Registration for the event can be found online with a $5 donation required.
Parking is available on Mary Street and the location is accessible via GO Transit.
A full list of GO Transit routes to the centre can be viewed online.
