In 2018, the Halton Regional Police Service’s Toys for Tots campaign and the Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation’s Miracle on Main initiative combined forces with the goal of assisting more families and children during the holiday season than ever before. In 2019 the partnership, now known formally as “Miracle on Main”, was another great success with over $750,000 in toys, cash and gift cards donated and distributed to children and families throughout the Halton Region! In addition, $30,000 was donated to various elementary schools in support of initiatives such as mental health, literacy, inclusive classrooms, coding, art workshops, classroom technology and breakfast programs. A true testament to what working collaboratively towards a common goal can do to accomplish great things.
“Community Safety and Well-being is a shared responsibility and it is great to see so many people and organizations step up to do their part. The success of the Miracle on Main initiative demonstrates what is possible when our community comes together to help others. We are so very proud to partner in such a meaningful campaign each year,” said Deputy Chief Roger Wilkie.
Halton Police and Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation members spent an unbelievable amount of time collecting, packing and delivering the donated items to organizations and families in need. The time, commitment and passion all of these individuals brought to the campaign is unmeasurable. With such dedication, the campaign will be able to support more families in need for years to come!
“A simple gesture of kindness can leave an impression on a child to last a lifetime and that’s what Miracle on Main hopes to achieve each year through the tireless efforts and support of its volunteers, partners and sponsors. I’m so overwhelmed by the record turnout of students and very grateful to the ever growing list of public schools that support our initiative each year. In addition to delivering smiles to children that are admitted in the hospital over the holidays, promoting the message of inclusion to students has been at the core of our foundation,” said Tiger Jeet Singh Jr., President of the Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation.
Approximately 40 businesses and community partners donated to this year’s campaign. The community support through the annual Region-Wide Cram-a-Cruiser events, donation drop offs at local Police Stations and the annual Miracle on Main Street celebration on December 9th 2019 in Milton, was inspiring. The toys and gift cards collected were donated to families in need across the Halton Region and to several Halton community organizations including Salvation Army Chapters, Halton Women’s Place, CMHA, Big Brother’s Big Sister’s, Faith Based organizations, Halton Elementary Schools and local hospitals, just to name a few.
Halton Regional Police Service Sergeant Ric Judson stated “Without the support and generosity of our local businesses and community partners, we could not do what we do! It’s inspiring to see a community come together to do amazing things!”
