Milton Continues to be one of the fastest-growing

2016 Census data, released today by Statistics Canada, confirmed that Milton continues be one of Canada’s fastest-growing communities with an estimated population of 110,128, up 30.5% since 2011. The 2011 Census estimated Milton’s population at 84,362 representing a percentage change of 56.5% from 2006.

“I am very proud of the focus we’ve maintained on ensuring that we’re building a complete community as we grow,” said Milton Mayor Gord Krantz. “Our young, vibrant and diverse population, along with a low property tax rate, outstanding facilities and natural parks, continues to make Milton an attractive location for homebuyers and business investment.”

Since 2011, Milton has celebrated the announcement of a University-led post-secondary campus, the opening of the Mattamy National Cycling Centre and MEV Innovation Centre, the expansion of the Milton Sports Centre and a multi-phased expansion of Community Park.

With an average age of 34, and 73% of residents with a post-secondary education, Milton boasts one of the youngest, most diverse and well-educated populations in Ontario. The strength of Milton’s workforce has attracted numerous employers and entrepreneurs to the area where a young, skilled population looks to live and work.

In 2016, the Town of Milton processed applications to build 1,531 dwelling units (apartments, townhomes, single family homes, etc.), and forecasts an additional 2,518 dwelling units in 2017 to meet the demands of new homeowners.

The Town’s significant residential growth has been matched with a consistent, balanced approach to employment land development. Over the last five years, the Town has proactively maintained a 75% residential, 25% non-residential development split to create opportunities for business investment, support the local economy and stimulate job growth.

The Town is expected to continue to grow over the next 15 years and estimates a population of 145,000 in 2021, and 235,000 in 2031.
