The last lecture in the 2016 Laurier Lecture series was held May 11, 2016. Mayor Gord Krantz, and Wilfrid Laurier University President Dr. Max Blouw used the opportunity to update the audience on the quest for a Milton Campus. “Everything is in place for this campus,” Krantz said.
Milton was one of 19 communities competing for a new university campus in 2015. It lost out when the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities awarded a York University campus to Markham Ontario. “We expect a call from the province to submit a proposal sometime over the summer,” Blouw said.
Wilfrid Laurier University’s (W.L.U.) proposal is for a 150 acre campus and research park in the area of Tremaine Rd. and Derry. W.L.U. has been working with the Town of Milton on building a campus since 2008. The provincial government is expected to issue a call for proposals for universities in the Halton and Peel regions later this year.
