Although Black History Month is over, Karee Shea Walker seeks to continue promoting the spirit of community associated with it. Walker launched her children’s book: Be Leaf in August, 2015. Be Leaf is the story of a girl named Marikeyta who lives in a city with her mother. When her mother’s falls ill, she is forced to seek the help of a wise old couple living at the top of the hill who help her in a quest for the Bee Leaf. The story is meant to inspire kids to realize that everything is possible.
Walker has a series of readings organized throughout the first half of March at various venues throughout Toronto:
- March 3: 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m at 1885 Wilson Avenue at the ReMax Building – Lower Level
- March 5: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreational morning educational program at Oakdale Park Middle School 315 Grandravine Drive.
- March 11: 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m Family Literacy Night at Woodbridge Public School – 60 Brunswick Avenue
