Police say they have arrested a man believed to be involved in a sexual assault that took place more than a decade ago.

The crime was recently reported to the police and Halton Regional Police Service’s Child and Sexual Assault Unit made the arrest.

No further information as to when and where the assault took place would be released by the police in order to protect the victim’s identity.

Sean James, 54, was arrested and charged with one count of sexual assault.

The arrest was made on March 4 this year and James was subsequently released from custody.

He is pending a court appearance.

Sexual assault is any touching of another person without their consent where the touching is of a sexual nature, or where the sexual integrity of the victim is violated.

A sexual assault can range from unwanted touching to sexual assault involving penetration.

There is no legal limitation of time in reporting the cases of sexual assault. Such cases can be reported to police notwithstanding how long ago the crime took place, hence the police are investigating this crime despite having taken place years ago.

Police have urged anyone who has more information on him or has been victimized by him to contact the Child and Sexual Assault Unit at  905-825-4777 ext. 8970.

Further anonymous tips can also be reported to 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or at www.haltoncrimestoppers.ca.

Victims of violence and/or sexual assault can also contact the Halton Regional Police Service Victim Services Unit at 905-825-4777 for support.
