Milton District High School (MDHS) student Lisa Bera has won the prestigious Schulich Leader Scholarship.  Bera is one of only 100 recipients in Canada.

The scholarship is valued at $100,000 and will allow Bera study opportunities in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).  She credits her parents with encouraging her.  “My parents have always emphasized excelling in academics and expressing the importance in all learning opportunities,” she said.

Bera will enroll in the University of Toronto’s Engineering Program beginning this fall. “My dream is innovate technology that saves millions of lives from being lost to natural disasters,” she described.  Principal at MDHS, Rasa Baksys expressed the school’s pride in Bera’s accomplishment.  “Join us as we recognize and celebrate Lisa’s achievement especially this year.  This is a true testament to student resilience, determination and staff support.”

The Schulich program is celebrating 10 years with the Leader scholarship program.  “This group of 100 outstanding students will represent the best, and brightest Canada has to offer, and will make great contributions to society, both on a national, and a global scale,” program founder Seymour Schulich said.
