Thanks to a new partnership with a not-for-profit recycling company, used child car seats can be diverted from the landfill with help from the Milton Fire Department. Station No. 3 is collecting the seats as part of this new initiative, in collaboration with Green Propeller.
This is a two-step process. Participants will need to pre-pay the recycling fee online on Green Propeller’s website ($10 for a car seat and $5 for a booster seat). And then they can drop off the seat at Milton Fire Department Headquarters/Station No. 3, 610 Savoline Blvd., from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
One quarter of a million car seats currently end up in landfills across Ontario each year. Green Propeller provides an environmental friendly alternative to the landfills; however, they do not receive any funding for the recycling. The recycling fee represents the cost to collect, dismantle and recycle the child car safety seats. The fee also supports Green Propeller’s mandate to provide jobs for persons who identify as having a barrier to employment.
