Ontario is further easing restrictions on retail. Starting May 8 at 12:01 a.m. garden centres and nurseries will be able to open for in-store purchases under the same restrictions as grocery stores and pharmacies.
“As the trends improve, we can move forward with reopening more and more of our economy, and getting people back to work. The province has set up the following timeline for openings:
- Friday May 8: Nurseries and Garden Centres open for in-store payment.
- Saturday May 9: Hardware, and supply stores may be able to open for in-store payment
- Monday May 11: Retail with a street entrance will be able to open for curbside pick where available.
“It’s due to the progress we have made collectively to slow the spread of COVID-19 that we are able to see a gradual easing of restrictions, allowing certain businesses to reopen safely,” Economic Development Minister Vic Fedeli said. All businesses reopening must follow public health measures such physical distancing, frequent handwashing, and staggering shifts as well as using non-contact payment options to the spread.
Ontario has also authorized the resumption of below-grade construction projects such as apartment buildings, and condominiums, as well as other above grade projects to continue. “During this period, we must move cautiously and strike the right balance between getting people back to work, and preventing further outbreaks. Protecting the safety of staff, customers and the general public is our number one priority,” Fedeli said.
