Ontario Kicks Off Shop Local Campaign

The Ontario government is marking Small business Week by encouraging residents to support their local small businesses when safe to do so.

The campaign was introduced by Associate Minister of Small Buisness Prabmeet Sarkaria. “All of our small businesses supported the fight against COVID-19, many by closing their doors for several months- now it’s our turn to help support their recovery,” Sarkaria said.

“Shop Local! Shop Safe! Shop With Confidence!” campaign invites local Mayors and community leaders and groups to commit via social media to shop local while highlighting best practices implemented by those businesses. Practices that include:

  • Washing and sanitizing hands
  • Maintaining physical distancing
  • Staying home if unwell
  • Practicing respiratory etiquette
  • Cleaning and disinfecting regularly

“The retail council of Canada is strengthened by the contributions our diverse membership, and we’re delighted to join the Government of Ontario in supporting our main street retail businesses and indeed all retailers across the province,” Retail Council of Canada President Diane Brisebois said.
