Ontario to Increase Pay for Frontline Workers

Ontario will increase pay for frontline workers by $4 as part of a COVID-19 pandemic payment.  “During these dark days, the Ontario spirit continues to shine through with everyday acts of heroism, courage, and compassion by our frontline workers,” Premier Doug Ford said.

The package also includes an extra $250/ month over the next four months for those working over 100 hours/week.   This works out to be $3560 for those working a 40 hour work week.  “I am truly grateful, as are the people of Ontario, for their service, and it’s time we give something back to those who sacrifice so much day in and day out.

Eligible workers include staff at long-term care homes, retirement homes, corrections’ institutions, those who work in social services congregate care settings, as well as some staff in hospitals and those providing community care.  “It is vital that we retain our frontline health care workers as we continue our fight to stop the spread of COVID-19,” Health Minister Christine Elliott said.

Those eligible will receive the temporary payment begin immediately, lasting for 16 weeks.  For more information on eligibility criteria visit the province’s website.
