Ontario Extends School Closure until May 31

Ontario is extending its closure of all publicly funded schools until May 31.  The decision was based on advice from the Chief Medical Officer of Health, and the Province’s Command table.

“We will do whatever it takes to keep our students safe,” Education Minister Stephen Lecce said.  The closure could be extend further into June.  The province launched its second phase of “Learn At home the end of March. They entered into a partnership with Apple and Rogers to provide iPads with free data to those students in need.

The free data will be available until the end of June. “Regardless of what transpires over the coming weeks, Ontario’s students will be able to complete their school year with confidence,” Lecce said.

If schools are allowed to reopen, staff will be able to get access to the schools beginning May 29, 2020.  The province will likely move to extend the school year replacing PA days and exam days with instructional time.
