Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the launch of the Canada Student Service Grant (CSSG) The program will provide grants to post-graduate students, and recent grads in exchange for volunteer work post COVID-19.
“Canadian students are looking for ways to make a real difference in their communities,” Trudeau said. Students will be given a one-time payment of $1,000-$5,000 based on the number of hours students work. The government has set up an online platform called I want to help. Type in your city, and do the search from there.
The federal government has also introduced a series to help students through the COVID-19 pandemic including:
- An additional $186 million in a student work placement program
- The creation of 10,000 new jobs through the Canada Summer Jobs Program
- Creating over 3500 new placements and internships through the Youth employment and Skills Strategy. New funding of $34 million above the $153 million announced in April
Our government recognizes that digital skills, computer knowledge and work-integrated learning are huge contributors to the future of innovation and jobs in Canada,” Innovation, Science and Industry Minister Navdeep Bains said. Positions available through the site include content creation.
