7 to be Added to Milton’s Walk Of Fame

The Town of Milton and Milton Historical Society announced today that seven prominent Miltonians will be added to the community’s Walk of Fame during its 10th anniversary celebration on Sunday February 19, 2017 at 2 pm at Town Hall.

The Walk of Fame induction ceremony will also commemorate the 160th anniversary of the establishment of the Corporation of the Town of Milton, the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Dominion of Canada, and the 40th anniversary of the creation of Milton Historical Society.

Joining the current 44 members of the Walk of Fame are:

• William C. Anderson (1853 – 1929), Electric Automobile Manufacturer
• Kirk Brush (1953 – 1995), World Champion Highland Dancer
• Jerry Dias, National Union Leader
• Rev. Karen (Trimble) Horst, National Religious Leader
• Allison Rutland, Animator, Author
• Kirstine Stewart, Author, International Internet & Broadcast Media Executive
• John Willmott, International Cattle Judge, Canadian Beef Industry Builder

“It gives me a tremendous sense of pride to honour the seven Miltonians who are being inducted into the Walk of Fame,” said Milton Mayor Gord Krantz. “The Walk of Fame honours individuals who have firmly established themselves on a national or international stage and I invite all Miltonians to come and be a part of this special and significant celebration.”

“On behalf of Milton Historical Society, congratulations to each and every one of the newest inductees to the Town of Milton Walk of Fame,” said Mandy Sedgwick, President, Milton Historical Society. “Each of these inductees has demonstrated considerable accomplishment in their respective fields of endeavour – and engendered a great deal of pride in each and every Miltonian, in the process.”

To qualify for induction into Milton’s Walk of Fame, individuals must have met the following criteria:

• Nominee must be born in Milton or spent formative or creative years here.
• Nominee must have lived in community for minimum of ten years.
• Nominee’s accomplishments must be national and/or international in scope.
• Nominee’s achievement must be best-in-class in his/her best-in-class field of endeavour and extended for minimum two calendar year period.
• Nominee’s achievement must fit into following fields: athletics, arts and entertainment, business and industry, government and public service and health and science.

Previous inductees include Col. Chris Hadfield, Tiger Ali Singh, and Ernest Coombs (Mr. Dress Up).  The walk-of-fame is located inside the walkway joining the newer part of Town Hall to the original building.
