Beware of CRA Scam spreading via Text Message

There is a new scam spreading via cell phone text message from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). It’s message marked with an ID number labelled CRA ID.  The message contains a link to the agency’s website and invites recipients to tap a link in order to confirm login information.

The scammers contact taxpayers via phone, text message, mail or email and requests personal information such as social insurance number (SIN) bank account, and credit card information.

The Canada Revenue Agency will contact you by phone to offer free help to file your taxes, or begin an audit process.  They will confirm your name, date of birth, address and social insurance number.  For more information visit their website
