Families across Halton’s ethnocultural communities are preparing for a full day of Mother’s Day celebrations on Sunday, with local groups, cultural associations and neighbourhood networks hosting events that highlight the region’s multicultural spirit.
In Milton, several community organizations are planning gatherings that blend cultural traditions with family‑friendly activities. The Milton Muslim Moms Community Facebook group, one of the town’s largest online parent networks, is hosting a morning meet‑up at Milton Community Park.
“Mother’s Day is one of the few times we pause and let ourselves be celebrated,” said Aisha Faizi, a Milton mother of three who plans to attend the event. “It’s even more special when the whole community comes together.”
Across the region, other ethnocultural groups are preparing their own celebrations. In Burlington, families can take part in a Mother’s Day Sip N’ Paint event, while in Oakville, the South Asian Mothers’ Circle is hosting a chai‑and‑chat social. The Halton Arab Association will hold a brunch in Burlington featuring traditional dishes and a short program recognizing mothers who volunteer in the community.
“For many of us who moved to Canada without extended family, these events fill that gap,” said Sofia El Khalil of Oakville. “It feels like a big, multicultural family celebrating together.”
In Milton, Chinmaya Mission Halton will hold a Mother’s Day Matru Puja, offering families an opportunity to participate in a cultural ceremony honouring mothers. And in Halton Hills, Caribbean and African community groups are organizing an outdoor picnic at Dominion Gardens Park, complete with music, children’s performances and a small vendor market featuring handmade gifts.
“My kids love seeing our culture represented, especially on a day that honours mothers,” said Janice Morgan, a Georgetown resident originally from Trinidad. “It reminds them where they come from and who they come from.”
One of the region’s largest public events will take place at Mountsberg Conservation Area, where Conservation Halton is hosting Mother, Nature, an outdoor Mother’s Day program running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Visitors can explore spring trails, visit farm animals, enjoy the natural playground, stop by the Raptor Centre and take part in themed activities designed to help families spend meaningful time together.
Optional add‑on experiences include Afternoon Tea in a Box, yoga in the park and a beeswax candle‑making workshop.
“Mother, Nature is a wonderful way to celebrate mom while enjoying the outdoors,” said Craig Machan, Parks and Operations Director at Conservation Halton. “Whether it’s a peaceful walk on the trails, time spent with family or participating in our special activities, we’re excited to offer an experience that brings people together in nature.”
Admission to Mother, Nature is included with park entry, though reservations are required. Add‑on activities carry additional fees. More information is available at conservationhalton.ca/mother-nature/.
Organizers across Halton say the goal of Sunday’s events is to create welcoming spaces where mothers from all backgrounds feel seen, appreciated and connected. With sunny weather in the forecast and a growing network of cultural groups active across the region, strong turnout is expected.
