Halton Hills announces these important recreation updates

By Christian Collington, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter, TheIFP.ca

Registration for Halton Hills recreation programs is set to open Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 7 a.m. for residents.

Non-residents can register beginning Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 7 a.m., with an additional 20 per cent fee applied.

Residents can view the programs being offered online and are encouraged to secure their spots early as programs often fill quickly.

Some of the recreation programs being offered are adult fitness classes, children’s sports and dance as well as aquatics like swimming lessons and life saving.

If a preferred program time is already full, participants can either register for another available time or join a wait list.

To help staff track demand and manage spaces efficiently, participants are asked to limit themselves to one registered spot or one wait list entry per program.

Those who are on a wait list, but also hold a confirmed registration for the same program at another time, should note that switching to the wait-listed time, if it becomes available, will result in a withdrawal fee.

Ahead of registration day, residents should ensure their online accounts are active and that usernames and passwords are up to date.

First-time users are advised to create an account in advance.

When registering online, participants are reminded to allow the system to process orders without refreshing the browser or resubmitting the registration, as this may result in multiple charges.

Temporary pool closure

The town also announced that the Gellert Community Centre pool will be closed for annual maintenance from Sept. 1 to 14, with the pool reopening for lessons and programs on Sept. 15.

During the closure, indoor access will be limited to the customer service desk only and no indoor amenities — including washrooms, water fountains or vending machines — will be available.

Customer service hours during that time will be Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the desk will be closed on weekends.

Email glitch solved

In addition, the town announced that a previous issue with Microsoft email domains — including Outlook, Hotmail, iCloud, MSN and Live — blocking registration-related messages has been resolved.

These messages include account password resets, program confirmations, reminders, payment receipts and wait list notifications.

Any residents who aren’t receiving these emails should contact staff at register@haltonhills.ca or call 905-873-2600, ext. 2275.
