Halton Hills will be celebrating Pride with a lineup of events including a community barbecue and fireside chat.

Pride Halton barbecue

Pride Halton will be hosting a barbecue on June 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Norval United Church in Georgetown.

The gathering invites residents to enjoy food conversation and community in a welcoming atmosphere. General admission is $5 per person.

Organizers recommend residents bring their own lawn chairs or blankets.

Tickets can be purchased online.

Fireside chat and sewing workshop

The celebrations continue on Saturday, July 11 with a pair of events at the Georgetown branch of the Halton Hills Public Library.

At 1 p.m., the library will host a fireside chat and Q&A with Canadian artist and storyteller Vivek Shraya.

A three-time Canadian Screen-Award winner, Shraya — who’s work spans music, literature, film, television, theatre, fashion and visual art — will share stories and insights from her creative career.

Free tickets for the chat can be obtained through the John Elliott Theatre box office.

Later that day, running from 2 to 4 p.m., the Georgetown branch will host “Sewing is a Drag,” a free interactive workshop led by drag artist Chimaera.

Participants will learn the basics of designing and creating drag outfits, including sketching, measurements and costume construction.

Residents can book a spot on the library’s website.

Pride Halton Parade

The summer’s celebrations will culminate with the fourth annual Pride Halton Parade and Pride in the Park on July 19 in Milton’s Main Street district.

The parade steps off at 2 p.m., with the Pride in the Park to follow at the Milton Fairgrounds running from 3 to 8:30 p.m.

Pride in the Park will feature local vendors, community resources and live entertainment.

More details on how to participate can be found on Pride Halton’s website.
