In a powerful display of purpose and perseverance, Toronto resident Qaiser Saghir Mayo will lead a 50-kilometre walk from Toronto to Milton on Thanksgiving Day to raise awareness and support for Autism Ontario.

This is not a walk for glory — it’s a walk for change. Backed by a growing community of supporters, Mayo’s journey is part of a larger movement to unite cities and hearts across Canada in support of autism awareness.

Mayo, who works for a security company and has no one autistic in his family, has dedicated years to transforming footsteps into meaningful impact. His previous walks — 33 km to Mississauga in 2023 and 45 km to Brampton in 2024 — garnered increasing support.

This year marks his third annual walk — and it’s his most ambitious yet. Starting at 7:30 AM, Mayo will embark on a 50KM trek, aiming to reach Milton by 5:30 PM. Awaiting him will be Mayor Gordon Krantz, along with other dignitaries and town councillors, all ready to celebrate a community united by compassion.

“This walk is my way of standing with families affected by autism,” Mayo said. “I feel the pain of parents who struggle every day. I want them to know they’re not alone.”

The walk is open to everyone. Whether you join for five minutes or all 50 kilometres, your presence sends a powerful message. Donations to Autism Ontario are encouraged, and spreading the word is just as important.

“Long walk, loud message.” That’s the motto — and it’s more than words. It’s a call to action.

Each year, Mayo selects a new city to connect communities and build bridges across Canada. His goal is to create a national tradition of awareness, unity, and support for autism.

As Anne Frank once said, “No one has ever become poor by giving.” This walk is a gift — of time, energy, and heart.
