Mountsberg Conservation Area is ready to dazzle visitors again withWinterlit, a magical event that transforms the winter woods into an illuminated wonderland.
Starting Dec. 29, the award-winning experience features two captivating trails—the Sugar Bush and Winterlit trails—where guests can enjoy gentle walks surrounded by art installations made from sustainable materials. Fireside lounges and photo stations along the trails provide perfect opportunities to relax and capture memories with friends and family.
“Every year, park visitors come to Winterlit to enjoy a peaceful walk on the trails lined with illuminated art installations,” said Director of Parks & Operations Craig Machan.
“These exhibits aren’t just nice to look at, they are sustainable at their core. Our creative team makes beautiful art pieces with upcycled materials and ash tree wood removed from our parks because of the invasive Emerald Ash Borer beetle. All the artwork is lit using LED lights to help reduce the event’s environmental impact.”
Beyond the trails, Winterlit offers a variety of unique activities to enhance the experience. Guests can explore the Book Nook cabin for a winter book exchange and board games, or visit the Den to learn about Mountsberg’s resident animals. Visitors can also support the Conservation Halton Animal Care Fund by painting a heart to take home or add to a community art display and bring home a branded wood souvenir to commemorate their visit.
For those looking to deepen their adventure, Winterlit features unique add-ons. On Friday evenings, guests can participate in a Discover Owls experience to get up close with one of the park’s resident raptors. Saturdays offer a guided Star Walk, where participants can learn about the night sky. At the same time, Sundays provide the chance to make a beeswax candle to take home.
The event runs from Dec. 29 to Jan. 7, excluding Jan. 2, 2024, and continues on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from Jan. 12 to Feb. 17. Winterlit takes place at Mountsberg Conservation Area, located at 2259 Milburough Town Line, Campbellville.
Visitors can attend Enchanted Evenings on Dec. 31 or Feb. 14 for a truly memorable evening specially designed for New Year’s and Valentine’s Day celebrations. These nights include a bar, live music, magic acts, roaming light and fire performers, and activities like candle-making.
