The Halton Police are investigating a suspected “chop shop” operation uncovered following a fire at a rural property in Milton.
The incident occurred on Nov. 26, 2024, around 11:40 p.m., when officers responded to reports of a blaze at a large property on Number 20 Side Road, east of Sixth Line Nassagaweya. Upon arrival, police found a barn fully engulfed in flames.
Milton Fire Services extinguished the fire, and no injuries were reported. The property was unoccupied at the time of the incident. The fire has been classified as suspicious and is being probed by the police.
A subsequent search of the property on Nov. 28 led investigators to discover disassembled parts from eight stolen vehicles. The vehicles had been reported stolen from the Peel, Waterloo, and Niagara regions, as well as from Quebec and Manitoba.
Police believe the property was being used to dismantle vehicles in what is commonly known as a chop shop. No arrests have been made, and police are seeking public assistance.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the police.
