Halton police investigate multiple crimes, including sexual assault, break-ins, and shooting

The Halton Police are currently investigating several criminal incidents across the region. Among the cases, a Burlington man faces charges in connection with a sexual assault and voyeurism investigation, and police are warning Oakville residents about a rise in break-ins targeting homes near green spaces. Additionally, two women were arrested after a high-speed traffic stop while police investigated a series of break-ins involving luxury vehicles in Oakville.
BURLINGTON MAN HELD ON SEXUAL ASSAULT CHARGES
The Halton Police have arrested a 35-year-old Burlington man and laid multiple charges following a sexual assault investigation. Police began investigating after an adult woman reported being sexually assaulted by the accused. On Nov. 14, Trevor Cant was arrested and charged with sexual assault and voyeurism.
During the investigation, police identified a second victim. As a result, on Nov. 21, Cant was additionally charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm (strangulation). Cant was held in custody for a bail hearing and later released with a future court date.
POLICE WARN OAKVILLE RESIDENTS ABOUT BREAK-INS
The Halton Police are urging Oakville residents to take precautions following a rise in break-and-enter incidents targeting homes adjacent to green spaces and trail systems. The break-ins have occurred during both daytime and evening hours, with a peak between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Police say thieves often gain entry through rear doors and primarily target cash, jewelry, and luxury items. In some cases, ladders have been used to access second-story windows and balconies. HRPS is reminding residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious people, vehicles, or activities to the police immediately.
BURLINGTON MAN CHARGED IN VOYEURISM
The Halton Police have arrested a 58-year-old Burlington man following an investigation into voyeurism and criminal harassment at Mapleview Mall.
Police began their investigation on Oct. 28, 2024, after receiving a report that an adult male was recording two female youths without their knowledge in the mall’s food court. On Nov. 19, 2024, Kenneth Adam was arrested and charged with two counts of voyeurism and two counts of criminal harassment. Adam was held in custody pending a bail hearing. Police say Adam has been working as a private math tutor and special education consultant in the Halton region.
HALTON POLICE SEEK WITNESSES AFTER MALL THEFT
The police are appealing for witnesses following a theft and threats at the Bell store in Oakville Place Mall. The incident occurred on Nov. 18, 2024, at approximately 8:30 p.m., when three suspects entered the store and removed several cell phones and tablets from display cases. The suspects verbally threatened employees but did not display or use any weapons. No injuries were reported.
POLICE ARREST TWO WOMEN
The police have arrested two Mississauga women and laid multiple charges after a high-speed traffic stop. The incident occurred on Nov. 16, 2024, when police attempted to stop a vehicle near Kobzar Drive and Travertine Drive. Instead of pulling over, the vehicle accelerated away at a high rate of speed.
Officers deployed a tire deflation device, successfully stopping the vehicle near Trafalgar Road on eastbound Highway 407. The two female occupants were taken into custody without further incident. Maryam Saleem, 18, of Mississauga, faces several charges, including possession for trafficking fentanyl and Xanax, flight from police, dangerous operation, failing to comply with a release order, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
Alina Aleem, 19, also of Mississauga, has been charged with possession for trafficking fentanyl and Xanax.
POLICE INVESTIGATE BREAK-INS TARGETING LUXURY VEHICLES
The police are investigating two linked break-ins in Oakville involving the theft of a luxury SUV. The incidents occurred early on Nov. 16, 2024. Around 4:10 a.m., suspects attempted to break into a home on Lakeshore Road, believed to be seeking keys to the resident’s vehicles. The attempt was unsuccessful.
Shortly after, two suspects targeted another home near Third Line and Rebecca Street. Using a hammer, they smashed a front window and entered the home, stealing keys to a Mercedes SUV parked in the driveway. The suspects fled in the stolen vehicle. No interaction occurred between the suspects and residents, and no injuries were reported. Police later spotted the stolen SUV travelling at high speed alongside an Audi, running red lights. The Audi, reported stolen from Peel Region, was later found abandoned near Dorval Drive and Kerr Street.
TORONTO MAN FACES GUN AND DRUG CHARGES
A Toronto man is facing numerous charges after police officers conducted a traffic stop in Oakville and seized a loaded firearm and drugs.
The incident took place on Nov. 16, 2024, at approximately 4:30 a.m., when officers observed a vehicle exiting the QEW at Royal Windsor Drive at an extremely high speed. The vehicle proceeded into the Ford Assembly Plant, where police initiated a traffic stop. During the stop, the lone male driver was found to be in possession of a loaded semi-automatic firearm as well as drugs, including cocaine and fentanyl. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Dejaun Gibbs of Toronto, was charged with several offences, including dangerous operation, unauthorized possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of drugs for trafficking. He is also facing charges for failing to comply with a release order and possession of a firearm and ammunition contrary to a prohibition order. Gibbs remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
TAYLOR SWIFT CONCERT TICKET FRAUD
The police are investigating a series of ticket frauds linked to the Taylor Swift concert series in Toronto. Victims reported losses exceeding $70,000. The police have received approximately 40 complaints about fraudulent or undelivered tickets sold by the same vendor. The alleged scam has left fans without tickets despite making payments for them. No arrests have been made at this time.
SHOOTING IN OAKVILLE
The police are investigating a shooting that took place outside a residence in Oakville. At approximately 10:28 a.m., an adult male was shot outside his home near Wavecrest Street and Creek Path Avenue. A vehicle approached the residence, and one suspect exited and confronted the victim. During the altercation, the victim was shot. The assailant then fled in the waiting vehicle, a white compact SUV. The victim was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
