The Town of Milton has completed initial plowing operations following this week’s significant snowfall and is now focusing on clearing priority areas, addressing missed spots, and correcting errors.
Despite ongoing efforts, high winds continue to cause drifting snow and whiteout conditions, which are expected to persist until Thursday. As a result, resources are being directed to regional and rural routes, potentially delaying cleanup in other areas.
Town officials say the large-scale removal effort is straining resources, particularly in subdivisions. Key challenges affecting progress include:
· Parked vehicles blocking access to streets.
· Residents shoveling snow back onto the road.
· Interference with snow removal equipment and operators.
“If interference occurs, staff and contractors will leave the area and return later,” the town warned in an update. Emergency situations are being prioritized, meaning phone calls to the operations department may not be answered immediately.
Some local residents have expressed frustration over the snow removal process. Ryan Thompson, a Milton resident, says he understands the challenges but believes more could be done.
“I appreciate the hard work the crews are putting in, but our street has been blocked in for two days,” he said. “It’s tough for seniors and those who need to get to work.”
Maria Patel, who lives in a rural area outside Milton, said drifting snow remains a major issue. “We clear our driveway, but within hours, the road is covered again,” she said.
“I know crews are doing their best, but it feels like an uphill battle.”
The town is urging residents to be patient and cooperate by keeping vehicles off the street, refraining from shoveling snow onto the road, and giving plows space to operate safely.
