By: Muhammad Aamir, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter, The Milton Reporter

A Cold Warning has been issued for Halton Region, effective March 1, as temperatures are expected to drop to -15°C or lower, not including wind chill. The warning will remain in place until conditions improve.

Halton Region Public Health is urging residents to take precautions against cold-related injuries such as frostbite and hypothermia, which can lead to severe health consequences.

“Anyone can be affected by extreme cold, but older adults, young children, and those with limited housing or outdoor workers are especially vulnerable,” public health officials said in a statement.

Residents are encouraged to check on at-risk family members, friends, and neighbours, especially those who live alone.

For those in need of shelter or support, Halton Region provides outreach services that can be reached by email at outreach@halton.ca, by phone at 1-866-442-5866 or 311, or through its Housing Supports and Services webpage.
