Oakville seeks public input on residential zoning changes in South Oakville

Oakville residents are invited to help shape new zoning regulations for low-density residential areas south of Dundas Street as the town reviews its existing bylaws for detached and semi-detached homes.

The review aims to establish clearer, more consistent rules for new developments, renovations, and upgrades, the Town of Oakville announced. Proposed amendments focus on driveways, yards, encroachments, lot coverage, and landscaping.

Public input has played a key role in shaping the review. In 2023, residents expressed concerns about ensuring new construction and home modifications—such as decks, pools, basement apartments, and extensions—fit within the character of existing neighbourhoods. The town is now seeking additional feedback on the proposed changes before finalizing amendments.

Two in-person open houses will be held at Town Hall, where residents can review zoning recommendations, view maps and diagrams, and provide feedback directly to town staff and project consultants. Pre-registration is not required for the sessions:

Wednesday, April 9, 2025, 6 to 8 p.m.

Thursday, April 10, 2025, 6 to 8 p.m.

Information gathered during the consultation will inform a draft Zoning By-law Amendment, set for further public review by summer 2025 before being presented to town council for approval.

The study area spans from Burloak Drive to Winston Churchill Boulevard and from Dundas Street to Lake Ontario, including four heritage conservation districts.

Regular zoning reviews help align municipal regulations with Oakville’s Official Plan and provincial housing policies while providing clarity for homeowners and developers, the town said.

More details on the zoning review are available on the South Oakville Residential Zoning By-law Review page on the town’s website.
