Milton Town Council has approved the first set of amendments to the town’s Official Plan, marking a key milestone in the We Make Milton initiative, a multi-year review and update to guide growth until 2051.

The Official Plan is a key document shaping how Milton evolves. With rapid growth and increasing demand for services, public input ensures policies reflect the community’s needs and priorities.

At a meeting on March 17, 2025, council endorsed changes aligning with the municipality’s long-term vision. The amendments include new policies focused on employment lands and future development.

“We Make Milton is a community-driven project that ensures our Official Plan reflects the needs and priorities of residents,” the town said in a statement. “This process is critical in managing Milton’s growth over the coming decades.”

Launched in 2019, the initiative has involved extensive public engagement. Residents have participated in discussions, surveys and consultation sessions to provide feedback on the town’s evolving development strategy. The most recent statutory public meeting took place Dec. 9, 2024, where input was gathered on the proposed changes.

Mayor Gord Krantz emphasized the importance of community involvement.

“As growth continues, these council-endorsed policy directions for the new Official Plan will help us align how and where Milton grows with the council’s vision for the town,” Krantz said. “This will help us continue to make Milton a place of possibility.”

As the We Make Milton project progresses, the town is encouraging continued public participation. Residents can review reports, attend engagement sessions, complete surveys and submit comments through the feedback forum or via email.

For more information on the We Make Milton initiative, visit the town’s website or contact the planning department.

The Town of Milton is inviting residents to share their thoughts, ideas and concerns about the community’s future development through its Open Comments feedback forum. The initiative is part of the town’s effort to create a new Official Plan, which will guide growth, land use, infrastructure and environmental policies for the coming decades.

The Open Comments forum allows residents to provide feedback on any policy or theme at any time throughout the project. Whether it’s housing, transportation, parks or economic development, Milton encourages everyone to have their say.

Residents can submit comments online through the town’s engagement platform. The municipality will review input as it drafts policies that will impact Milton’s future.

A statutory public meeting was held Dec. 9, 2024, for a municipally initiated Official Plan amendment updating the town’s Official Plan for all lands within Milton. Members of the public are invited to continue providing input via the Let’s Talk Milton feedback forum or by emailing WeMakeMilton@milton.ca.
