Halton police are addressing several major incidents across the region, including a sexual assault involving an Uber driver in Burlington, a violent home invasion in Oakville, a robbery at Oakville Place Mall, and fraud charges laid against a veteran police sergeant following a probe by the Ontario Provincial Police.
Man Charged with Sexual Assault
Halton police have charged an Oakville man with sexual assault in connection with an incident involving an Uber ride in Burlington last month.
According to police, the incident occurred on March 23, 2025, when an Uber driver operating a black Toyota Camry picked up an adult female passenger in the area of Pearl Street and James Street. Upon arriving at the requested destination, the driver allegedly sexually assaulted the woman inside the vehicle. The victim did not suffer any physical injuries.
Following an investigation, police identified and arrested Hassan Ali Khan, 24, of Oakville. He has been charged with one count of sexual assault and remains in custody pending a bail hearing in Milton. Investigators believe there may be additional victims and are urging anyone with information, or who may have been victimized by the accused, to contact the HRPS Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit.
Search for Four Suspects After Robbery
Police are searching for four suspects following a robbery at the Bell store inside Oakville Place Mall.
The incident occurred around 6:45 p.m. when four male suspects entered the store and confronted two adult male employees. One employee was forced to the rear of the store, but the suspects were unable to access a locked storage area. As they exited, the suspects stole two cell phones and fled the scene on foot to a waiting dark-coloured SUV.
No weapons were seen or mentioned during the incident, and no injuries were reported. All four suspects are described as Black males wearing hoodies, backpacks, and surgical masks. Police are asking anyone with information or surveillance footage from the area to contact them.
Attempted Vehicle Theft During Home Invasion
Police are investigating a home invasion and attempted vehicle theft that occurred in north Oakville. Four suspects forced entry into a home near Meadowridge Drive and Dundas Street East by breaking through a rear patio door.
Once inside, two suspects confronted an adult male and female, demanding the keys to their vehicles. During a brief struggle, one of the suspects struck the male resident in the face with an unknown object. All four suspects then fled the home, stealing a handbag but leaving behind the vehicle keys and vehicles. The male victim sustained minor injuries.
Police say one of the suspects was seen holding a handgun. All four are described as males wearing dark clothing and face masks.
Police Sergeant Charged with Fraud
A veteran member of the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has been charged with fraud following a lengthy investigation conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
The investigation began in February 2023 after the OPP’s Anti-Rackets Branch received multiple complaints related to an alleged investment scheme. Police confirmed that the criminal investigation has now concluded.
Sergeant Jon Williams, an 18-year member of the Halton police force, has been charged with one count of fraud over $5,000. Two other individuals, who are not connected to the police service, have also been charged in connection with the case.
In accordance with the Community Safety and Policing Act (CSPA), Williams has been suspended from duty with pay. The HRPS thanked the OPP for leading the investigation and for ensuring transparency and fairness throughout the process.
