Halton Hills seeks artists for new Limehouse park installation

The Town of Halton Hills is looking for a unique way to help residents take a load off at the community’s newest green space.

A call for expressions of interest was issued for a permanent public art installation at Tolton Park in Limehouse.

The project is currently seeking additional feedback from the public.

Through a previous public consultation, the town moved forward with a natural design for the park.

Rather than a traditional standalone sculpture, the town is seeking “functional art seating” — pieces that blur the lines between artistic sculpture and practical park furniture.

The town also noted that the installation will have a natural esthetic to blend in with the natural surroundings of the area.

The project, which carries a total budget of $35,000, is part of the town’s broader effort to integrate professional art into municipal infrastructure.

The town will be following a two-stage selection process.

For the first stage, artists are invited to submit their qualifications, CVs and portfolios. No specific artwork proposals are required and the deadline for this initial stage is Jan. 30, 2026.

For the second stage, up to three artists or teams will be selected to develop detailed proposals. These finalists will receive a $2,000 honorarium for their work.

The final selected artist will receive a $9,000 commission fee, with an additional $20,000 allocated for fabrication and installation costs.

The competition is open to professional artists and artist teams across Canada, though the town is encouraging local and regional talent to apply.

Submissions must be sent as a single PDF and include a letter of interest, artist statement and images of past work.

To ensure transparency, the town is also requesting that applicants disclose if artificial intelligence was used in the development of their statements.

The anticipated installation date for the seating is November 2026, coinciding with the park’s final completion phases.

Interested artists can find the full submission form on the town’s website or contact publicart@haltonhills.com for more information.
