Residents are invited to a special viewing party as the CBC shines a spotlight on Acton in an episode of “Still Standing,” which airs next month.
Hosted by Bethel Church, 70 Below Treats, Mayor Ann Lawlor and the Town of Halton Hills, the watch party will offer an opportunity to watch the episode commercial-free.
The viewing begins on Feb. 3 at 6:30 p.m. at Bethel Church (365 Queen St., Acton), with doors opening at 6:15 p.m.
The evening will include a special pre-show featuring behind-the scenes photos and interviews with the show’s cast and producers.
The specific episode, which can be viewed on CBC Gem on the same date, highlights Acton’s resilience and focuses on the town’s response to the closing of the Olde Hide House, as well as its shift to wildlife, innovative businesses and agricultural fairs.
“Still Standing” features Newfoundland and Labrador actor and comedian Jonny Harris, who travels across Canada to share the stories of small towns that have overcome adversity through humour and heart.
Season 11 of the series made its debut on Jan. 6 on CBC Gem.
Organizers are seeking any behind-the-scenes photos and videos that residents may have taken during the filming of the Acton episode.
They can be sent via email to info@70below.ca.
While admission to the community watch party is free, donations will be accepted for the Upper Credit Humane Society and the North Halton Kitten Rescue.
Non-perishable food items will also be accepted for the Acton Food Share and The Roxy Centre.
