As part of the 308 Conversations initiative Lisa Raitt announced she will host a community event in coordination with the Mental Health Commission of Canada, focused on promoting mental health awareness in Milton.  The event will take place May 17, 2016 at the Milton Centre for the Arts beginning at 7pm.

“Having these kinds of conversations in our communities all across Canada will go a long way in raising awareness and ending the stigma surrounding mental health,” said Lisa Raitt, Member of Parliament for Milton. “I would invite everyone from all backgrounds to join us for an inspirational evening, to listen, to learn and to lend your support.”

“We have all been affected one way or another by the challenges presented by mental health. We have a responsibility as a community to confront this problem head on.” said Gordon Krantz, Mayor for Milton. “Together we can raise further awareness and show a united front for those who suffer.”

Each year in Canada, nearly 4,000 people die from suicide. The Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) is spearheading a national dialogue entitled #308conversations in order to raise awareness about suicide prevention and mobilize national leadership in response to this growing problem.

The goal of #308conversations is to have MP-sponsored community meetings in each riding across Canada. These meetings are open to the community, bringing together experts ready to answer any questions people may have.

Special guests will include His Worship Mayor Gordon Krantz, National Executive Director of Mood Disorders Society of Canada Phil Upshall, Mental Health Advocate Frank Digulio, Fitness Professional Rob Foster and will feature inspiration speaker and survivor Mark Henick.
