Ontario 55+ Winter Games Attracts 1000 Participants

One thousand participants from across the province are set to take part in the 2017 Ontario 55+ Winter Games beginning today in Cobourg, which will strengthen the local economy while promoting healthy, active lifestyles for seniors.   “Coburg is recognized as having a large older adult populations, so it is fitting that a multi-sport event that promotes healthy, active lifestyles for seniors is being held in this community,” Minister of Seniors Affairs, Dipka Damerla,

This one-of-a-kind event, which is developed in partnership with the Ontario Seniors Games Association, is the only major provincial sporting event in Ontario for the 55+ age demographic. Competitions are held in 10 different sports, including:

  • Ten Pin Bowling
  • Alpine Skiing
  • Badminton
  • Curling
  • Duplicate Bridge
  • Ice Hockey
  • Nordic Skiing
  • Prediction Skating
  • Table Tennis
  • Volleyball

Ontario’s support for the games recognizes the many ways in which organized sport can be good for people and communities, from the health benefits of physical activity to the economic benefits of hosting multi-sport events.  Ontario will also host the Invictus Games later this year.
