Auto Theft Alert: Halton Police Issue Warning Tips

By: Muhammad Aamir, The Milton Reporter

The Halton Police have uncovered a concerning trend of auto thefts occurring not only within the Halton region but also extending to other areas in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). In response to this growing issue, law enforcement authorities are issuing a stern warning and providing updated theft prevention recommendations to residents.

A surge in thefts has been witnessed, with criminals breaking into homes to target keys to high-end vehicles parked in driveways. The modus operandi often involves thieves searching for unlocked doors. However, in certain instances, suspects have resorted to breaking windows or forcefully entering homes to seize keys conveniently left near entry points.

This year alone, approximately 20 of these break-ins have occurred in Oakville, with an additional 10 in both Burlington and Milton/Halton Hills. The vehicles most frequently targeted in these thefts are high-end models such as Mercedes and Lexus SUVs, as well as Cadillac Escalades.

These thefts predominantly transpire during the overnight hours and in the early morning. Fortunately, it’s important to note that none of these incidents have thus far involved violent confrontations.
