On Saturday, March 12th, 2016, Harinder Malhi, MPP for Brampton-Springdale and the Peel District School Board, hosted Celebrating ”All of Me”… a Conversation, in celebration of International Women’s Day.
With members of the community in attendance, the forum provided an opportunity to hear from two Community Leaders: Shelley White, President and CEO of United Way of Peel; and inspirational speaker: Rakhi Mutta. “The level of conversation that took place that took place shows that the issues of gender disparity- whether at work, at home, or in the community- are important to man,” Malhi said.
Each of the speakers enlightened the audience about their life – from an early age – and how they were “molded” and encouraged to take the path they have taken in their life and their careers. They further spoke of how women must support one another as well as ensure our children are raised to believe that they can do anything they set out to do – with NO barriers.
Those in attendance were then encouraged to engage in discussion on issues or concerns related to women – their successes and the barriers that currently exist. Discussions covered several topics including the Gender Wage Gap; breaking down barriers and stereotypes; mentoring and how women can support each other.
