Eight Miltonians to be Added to the Walk of Fame

The Town of Milton and Milton Historical Society announced today that eight prominent Miltonians will be added to the Town’s Walk of Fame during a special induction ceremony on Saturday February 23, 2019, 2 p.m. at Town Hall.

Joining the current 53 members of the Walk of Fame will be the following individuals:

• Kayla Alexander, Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) basketball player;

• Scott Hogarth, 11-time World Martial Arts Champion;

• Matt O’Meara, former Canadian Football League (CFL) offensive lineman;

• Matt Sewell, former Canadian Football League (CFL) offensive lineman;

• Arthur Henry Fleming (posthumous), international industrialist and philanthropist;

• Oscar Ernest Fleming (posthumous), co-founder, St. Lawrence Seaway;

• George Sherwood Hume (posthumous), internationally-renowned geologist; and

• Bert Wasmund, international leader, metallurgical plant engineering and design.

“It is with a great sense of pride and honour that I welcome this latest group of high-achieving Miltonians into the Walk of Fame, individuals who have achieved a great deal on a national and/or international stage,” said Mayor Gord Krantz, “I look forward to meeting them and their families at the induction ceremony and escorting them into Milton’s Walk of Fame.”

“On behalf of Milton Historical Society, congratulations to each and every one of the newest inductees to the Town of Milton Walk of Fame and their families,” said John Challinor II, President, Milton Historical Society. “Each of these individuals has demonstrated considerable accomplishment in their respective fields of endeavour – and created a great sense of pride amongst the rest of us, in the process.”

To qualify for induction into the Town of Milton’s Walk of Fame, individuals must have met the following criteria:

• Nominee must be born in Milton or spent formative or creative years here.

• Nominee must have lived in community for minimum of ten years.

• Nominee’s accomplishments must be national and/or international in scope.

• Nominee’s achievement must be best-in-class in his/her best-in-class field of endeavour and extended for minimum two calendar year period.

• Nominee’s achievement must fit into following fields: athletics, arts and entertainment, business and industry, government and public service and health and science.
