Milton Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) Parm Gill has requested an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the quarry proposed for Reid Road in Campbellville.
James Dick Construction has applied for a class A category 1& 2 license to extract gravel, sand, and bedrock from below the water table. “The Reid Road Reservoir quarry project poses serious threats to the quality of life, health, and general wellbeing of the residents in Milton,” Gill said. There are approximately 43 homes in the immediate area of the proposed site.
There is strong community opposition to the project. Their concerns include the extraction below the water table, a degradation of air quality, and diminished property values. “I believe it is our government’s duty to address these concerns before a decision is made regarding this application,” Gill said. If granted, the EA will subject the project to increased scrutiny.
A final decision will be made under the Aggregate Resources Act. Stakeholders can file an appeal with the Land Planning Appeals Tribunal (LPAT).
