Milton Transit Hits Record High ridership in 2018

Milton Transit achieved a record of 598,055 passengers boarding in 2018, representing an annual ridership increase of 11 per cent.

Overall, Q4 ridership on the conventional system grew by 12 per cent compared to the same time period last year. Service utilization performance during this period remained at approximately 13 boardings per service hour, influenced by additional services introduced in September 2018. Additionally, trip demand on the Milton access+ specialized system grew by 6 per cent in Q4 compared to 2017.

“Transit growth continues to be influenced by residential growth, service enhancements and service reliability improvements made this past year,” said Tony D’Alessandro, Manager, Transit. “In September 2018, a number of initiatives were implemented such as new services into Boyne (10 Farmstead route) and changes to the 1A Industrial route to accommodate a later shift time for employees working in the 401 Industrial Park area.”

Significant ridership growth is expected to continue in 2019, with more on-board technology advancements, including real-time bus arrival/departure information and automated passenger counting systems.
