Ontario Extends Business Closures

The province of Ontario is ordering more businesses closed due to COVID-19.  The new list includes 44 businesses that must close as of Saturday April 4, 2020 at 11:59.  The new closures will be in effect for 14 days.

“Everyone must do their part to stop the spread and flatten the curve.  If you are not an essential business, you need to close your doors and work from home if possible and play a role to help contain this outbreak,” Premier Doug Ford said.

The list also begins restricting construction to only critical construction projects such as refineries, petrochemical plans, new hospitals, roads, and bridges.  It limits residential construction to those near completion.  “We recognize the toll this outbreak is taking on business owners and workers,” Economic Development, Job creation and Trade Minister Vic Fedeli said.  Business owners with questions can call the Stop The Spread hotline at: 1-888-444-3659 Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.- 9.pm and weekends from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Municipal bylaw officers are now allowed to assess tickets and fines non-compliant businesses.  Halton Regional Police service have already warned one Oakville-area business.  For a full list of closures click here
