Trudeau Announces support for Food Banks, and local food organizations

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is now supports for Food banks, and local food organizations.  $100 million will improve access to food for Canadians feeling the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“With more Canadians turning to these supports, and donations and available volunteers decreasing, they need our help more than ever,” Trudeau said. The money will be used to buy food and other necessities.

The government will work with organizations including Food Banks Canada, Salvation Army, Second Harvest, Community Food Centres Canada, and Breakfast Clubs.  “I encourage all my fellow Members of Parliament to contact the food security organizations in their region to ensure that the entire country is covered,” Agriculture and Agri-food Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau said.

Optimist Club of Milton Holding Emergency Food Drive

The Optimist Club of Milton is holding a food drive April 4, and 5 from 10am- 2pm. in the parking lot outside Larose Bakery.  The drive will support the food pantry at Grace Anglican Church, and Milton Emergency Food Kitchen.

Needs include vegetables, frozen meat,  pasta, rice, canned non-perishables.  Safety precautions will be observed.  Volunteers will not get within six feet of you, and practice social distancing at all times.  Volunteers will pick-up donations.  For more information, including a full list of supplies visit their Facebook page.
