Milton MPP Parm Gill today awarded a Trillium Foundation grant to the Habitat For Humanity Halton-Mississauga. The “Grow grant” totalling $309,400 was to support their Habitat Handyman program.
The program based on a pilot project in Manitoba and will offer services including general carpentry, cabinet removal, bathroom renovation, deck repair, and fencing. “The funding provided to Habitat for Humanity Mississauga by the province of Ontario will create and promote safe and affordable home ownership here in Milton,” Gill said. It will also aim to give work experience in the trades through the use of volunteers, led by trusted contractors.
“Habitat is proud to work alongside MPP Parm Gill and the Ontario Trillium Foundation to ensure our Habitat Handyman program will make Halton and Peel Region a better place to live for everyone,” Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga CEO John Gerrard said. The funding is set to last two years. It will offer services to seniors, and low-income families in Burlington, Halton Hills, and Milton as well as Oakville. Gerrard Updates on Milton ReStore Relocation
The ReStore Milton’s location is facing relocation. Milton Council unanimously approved the rezoning of a property on Steeles Ave in January, 2018. It was overturned by Halton Council, and the application was withdrawn in April, 2018.
They’re in their current location until June, 2019. Gerrard said Habitat for Humanity has their eye on two different locations in the Town of Milton. “We’re working very diligently to try and advance the location confirmation,” he said.
