Mattamy National Cycling Centre prepares to host UCI Track Cycling World Cup in December

The best track cyclists in the world will descend on Milton’s Mattamy National Cycling Centre from December 1-3, 2017. The three-day UCI Track Cycling World Cup is expected to attract cyclists and spectators from around the world and be broadcast in more than 50 countries.

“When we built the Velodrome, we knew it had the potential to be a world class hub for high performance sport,” said Milton Mayor Gord Krantz. “Cycling Canada have been great partners for us, and we’re thrilled to welcome the world to Milton in December for the World Cup.”  The annual update for the Mattamy National Cycling Centre was on the agenda for the October 16, meeting of the Committee of the Whole.

“Cycling is a growing and iconic sport and Canadian cyclists have so much potential to shine on the world’s stage,” said Pierre Lafontaine, CEO Cycling Canada. “It’s been great to see how the Mattamy National Cycling Centre has developed young, homegrown talent.”  Lafontaine was at Milton Council Monday where he outlined plans for the weekend including a “Youth Day,” and plans to encourage more participation among women and girls.  He credited Halton municipalities for making it part of their official plans.

The Mattamy National Cycling Centre is located near the intersection of Tremaine Rd and Louis St. Laurent.  It is one of the Pan-Am Games’ legacy facilities. Tickets for the UCI Track Cycling World Cup are on sale now at www.twcmilton.com.
