The Town of Milton is launching a free children’s program that will bring every Milton child in grades 1-8 to the Milton Centre for the Arts to experience the arts each and every year. By the time a child finishes primary school, they will have experienced arts at the Centre 8 times, including popular and classical theatre performances, dance and hands-on visual arts. This annual program is aimed at removing the economic and social barriers that often prevent children from engaging in the arts.
“The benefits of exposing children to the arts are well known and I’m delighted that Milton can be a leader in developing partnerships that extend the arts experience and enrich our community,” said Mayor Gord Krantz. “I have always been a strong advocate for children, and I’m very proud that every Milton child will experience the arts through this new initiative.”
At the Mayor’s Gala for the Arts on January 14, the Town of Milton kicked off a fundraising campaign to support the Children’s Program. FirstOntario Credit Union is the lead donor as part of a sponsorship agreement to support the Children’s Program and for naming rights to the Centre. “The First Ontario Credit Union is committed to giving back to communities across Ontario,” said Kelly Giffin, President of FirstOntario Credit Union. “As we’re planning an expansion into Milton in the near future it is our utmost pleasure to help the Town of Milton in their mission to allow children to explore their passion for the arts.”
Donations to the fundraising campaign will go to the Community Fund of Halton North (CFHN). The Children’s Program will operate from the revenue on the funds raised. The CFHN was launched in 2014 by a group of local citizens and is one of 200 community foundations across the country.
