Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for Milton. This is a system expected to start in southwestern Ontario overnight, and move east bringing 2-5 millimetres of precipitation. The freezing rain is expected to begin early morning, and last for approximately nine hours. Roads, and pathways are expected grow slippery overnight. Environment Canada recommends the postponement of all non-essential travel until conditions have eased. This system is likely to have an impact on the morning commute, so leave plenty of time for travel.
Update: January 17, 8:10am: Halton District School Board (HDSB) has cancelled all buses. All schools remain open except for: Brookville, Killbride, Limehouse, Pineview, and Stewarttown Public Schools where the majority of schools are bussed. Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) has cancelled all busses across the board. Schools remain open.
Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) warns of unpredictable road conditions across the region. They’ve reported more than 12 collisions since 4am in across Milton, and Halton Hills.
Update: 11am: Halton Police reporting road conditions are improving in North Halton. Environment Canada has ended the freezing rain warning for Halton Hills-Milton. This afternoon’s high is expected to be 2 degrees Celsius.
