The Town of Milton Milton will begin accepting applications for the 2022 patio season March 10, 2022. The seasonal patio program allows bars and restaurants to extend and operate patios in certain areas.
The Town experienced a 20% increase in permit applications compared over 2020. All participating businesses reported that the program helped to recover some lost revenues due to the pandemic. 30% of participating businesses reported that the program allowed them to hire additional employees in 2021. This particular sector has seen significant impacts through the pandemic, therefore a program such as this has demonstrated to directly support business recovery and increased opportunities, Director of Strategic Initiatives and Business Development Andy Scott said.
The program resumes, as restaurants fully reopen following two years of COVID-19 related restrictions. Permits are tentatively set to come into effect for a community-wide patio opening on April 15. The program will run through to Oct. 31, 2022, for patios on public property and Dec. 31, 2022, for patios on private property.
