Ontario has closed all outdoor public spaces. The decision was made in the efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19. The province will also extend the emergency declaration another two weeks until April 13, 2020.
“I made a commitment to be open and upfront about what we need to do as a province to beat this virus,” Premier Doug Ford said. The recommendation was made on the advice Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health.
The new order covers all shared public/ private outdoor recreational amenities throughout the province. It includes playgrounds, sports fields, basketball and tennis courts, off-leash dog parks, beaches, skateboard, and BMX Pars, picnic areas, outdoor community gardens, park shelters, outdoor exercise equipment, condo parks and gardens, and other recreational amenities.
The order comes under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act. “I know our municipal partners are already taking action to locally protect their residents, Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Steve Clark said. The Town of Milton has already closed all of its parks and outdoor facilities until further notice.
The order to close all outdoor spaces will remain in effect until April 13, 2020.
