Ontario is expanding the list of frontline workers eligible to receive free emergency childcare during the COVID 19 outbreak. The list now includes those who work in the food supply chain, retirement homes, grocery stores, pharmacies as well as some federal employees.
“Providing emergency childcare for our essential workers gives parents one less thing to worry about when they’re on the job saving lives, protecting us, or keeping shelves stocked with food and necessities,” Premier Doug Ford said.
The decision builds on an emergency order issued March 22, 2020 that directed some childcare centres to remain open. Among them is Wee Watch’ Milton, which remains open for first responders. “They are making tremendous sacrifices every day, and we will be there for them every step of the way,” Education Minister Stephen Lecce added. Building Blocks Montessori and Preschool will also be open. “Our frontline workers will have access to safe, local childcare centres, making it easier for Health Care and other frontline workers to do their jobs,” Milton Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) Parm Gill said.
