The province of Ontario is investing in Energy and healthcare at the same time.  Halton MPP Indira Nadioo-Harris announced an investment of $951,559 in Halton Healthcare on Friday at Milton District Hospital.

The funding is part of a Hospital Energy Efficiency Program (HEEP).   It will be used to help hospitals in Georgetown and Milton retrofit facilities in order to make them more energy efficient.  “These important investments will allow facilities to provide patients with a safe, healthy environment,”  Naidoo-Harris said.

$500,000 is slated for improvements at Milton District Hospital.  “The funding announced today will enable us to replace outdated mechanical and building equipment in the older sections of our Milton and Georgetown Hospitals resulting in significantly reduced energy usage and increased energy savings,” President and CEO of Halton Healthcare Denise Hardenne explained.   The money will be used to replace doors, and retrofitting air handling units.  $459,000 is slated for Georgetown Hospital.

The program is part of Ontario’s Climate Change Action Plan, and uses proceeds from Ontario’s carbon market to modernize facilities.
