Premiers Clark, Wynne Recognize India Day

January 26 1950 was when India’s constitution came into full effect replacing the Government of India Act of 1935 as the country’s governing document.

Premier Christy Clark of British Columbia (B.C.), and Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne both released statements marking the holiday.  Clark paid tribute to their shared history.  “With a proud and vibrant Indo-Canadian community, British Columbia has always had a special cultural connection with India.  And while our predecessors sometimes failed to see it, our connections with India have made British Columbia a better, more colourful and prosperous place.”

Premier Wynne mentioned her upcoming trip, calling it a chance for new relationships.  “This trip is a turning point- a chance to build on the foundation, and create an even stronger relationship between Ontario and India.”  Wynne leaves January 27 for a 10 day trade mission to India.
