Plans to expand the Milton Go Station building have been halted. The announcement came in an official letter from Metrolinx to Milton Council dated late last month.
The previous government announced plans expand the station building, and add 850 parking spots in 2017. Infrastructure Ontario were asking for bids to design and build the project.
Metrolinx is in the process of evaluating infrastructure projects based on how best to invest taxpayer dollars. “The planned new station and bus loop will not be built at this time,” the letter states.
Instead they plan to focus on solving chronic parking problems. The province has leased 200 spots on the west side of the parking lot at the Superstore complex for transit users.
Cluett Attends Metrolinx Town Hall
Metrolinx held a Town Hall Wednesday in Burlington. In attendance was Ward three Regional Councillor Mike Cluett, who had the chance to ask about the decision stop the expansion of the station building.
“Our station was adequate for the current service levels of Milton,” Chief Operating Officer Ian Smith told the audience. The agency is moving forward with 850 parking spaces south of the station, and improvements to the parking lot on the north side. Route 20, which carried riders on a loop between Oakville and Milton was cancelled last June. It will not be reinstated.
